Following comments from Magnus Carlsen, FIDE is planning or considering eliminating the ratings spot for the Candidates tournament from 2028 onward. This proposed change concerns qualification methods for the Candidates, not Carlsen's current status as FIDE World No. 1.
Resolves YES if the official FIDE classical rating list published at any point on or before December 31, 2028, shows a player other than Magnus Carlsen ranked #1 among active players. Carlsen's retirement (marking him inactive) also counts as YES. Resolves NO if Carlsen remains the FIDE world #1 rated active player through December 31, 2028.
